-RAFTING, GREECE-

🇩🇪 Nach einer halben Ewigkeit über Gebirgsstraßen Griechenlands fahrend erreichten wir, gefühlt im Nirgendwo, die Lousious Schlucht. Hier bot sich uns eine ziemlich aufregende Strecke für ein Rafting-Abenteuer in kristallklarem Wasser. Wir erlebten eine ziemlich nice Mischung aus Nervenkitzel, Natur und Teamarbeit. Highlight waren einige echt turbulente Stromschnellen und ein paar Hindernisse, die echt aufregend waren.

🇺🇸 After an eternity on the mountain roads of Greece, we reached the Lousious Gorge in what felt like nowhere. This was a pretty exciting route for a rafting adventure in crystal-clear water. We experienced a pretty nice mix of thrills, nature and teamwork. The highlights were some really turbulent rapids and a few obstacles that were really exciting.

-MONEMVASIA-

🇩🇪 Den Van parkten wir im Hafen vor dem Eingang Monemvasias. Denn diese bezaubernde mittelalterliche Stadt in Griechenland, die auf einem felsigen Landvorsprung an der Südostküste der Peloponnes liegt, ist komplett autofrei. Sie ist von einer massiven Festungsmauer umgeben und bietet einen atemberaubenden Blick auf das Ägäische Meer. Highlight war diese eine byzantinische Kirche, in der wir bei 35 Grad im Schatten einfach mal eine komplette Stunde verweilten, während draußen die Hitze loderte. Am Ende des Tages gab es dann Seafood und 🍹 🍸 in den engen Gassen auf einer Terrasse mit Meeresblick eines der traditionellen Steinhäuser.

🇺🇸 We parked the van in the harbor in front of the entrance to Monemvasia. This charming medieval town in Greece, situated on a rocky promontory on the south-eastern coast of the Peloponnese, is completely car-free. It is surrounded by a massive fortress wall and offers a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea. The highlight was this Byzantine church, where we simply lingered for a whole hour in the shade at 35 degrees, while the heat blazed in the narrow alleyways outside. At the end of the day, we had seafood and 🍹 🍸 in the on a terrace with a sea view from one of the traditional stone houses.

🇩🇪 Der automatischen Löschanlage sei dank, fiel diese außergewöhnliche Ausgrabungsstätte nicht den Flamme zum Opfer, die noch kurz vor unserem Besuch am Rande der Anlage brannten. Wie schrecklich wäre es gewesen wenn der einstige Geburtsort der Olympischen Spiele, die im antiken Griechenland zu Ehren des Gottes Zeus abgehalten wurden, nicht mehr da gewesen wäre. 😢😨 🔥

🇺🇸 Thanks to the automatic extinguishing system, this extraordinary excavation site did not fall victim to the flames that were still burning on the edge of the site shortly before our visit. How terrible it would have been if the former birthplace of the Olympic Games, which were held in ancient Greece in honor of the god Zeus, had no longer been there. 😢😨 🔥

-ZAKYNTHOS, GREECE-

🇩🇪 Was wäre eine Griechenlandreise ohne ein Besuch auf einer der vielen wunderschönen Inseln ? Wie es der Zufall wollte, fanden wir nicht nur eine Insel, auf die wir mit dem Van mit der Fähre von Killini übersetzen konnten, sondern es sollte auch Griechenlands schönste, bekannteste und vielfältigste werden.

Auf Zakynthos unternahmen wir mehrere Schorchelausfüge, wir besichtigten das halb versunkene Schiffswrack in der Navagio-Bucht, ließen eine riesige Wasserschildkröte unter unseren SUPs durchschwimmen, chillten an den schönsten Sandstränden und feierten unseren fünften Hochzeitstag auf der bunten Partymeile in Laganas.

Das shipwreck gehört zu einem Schmugglerschiff, das in den 1980er Jahren dort gestrandet ist. Es wird angenommen, dass das Schiff von der griechischen Küstenwache verfolgt wurde, als es versuchte, illegal Zigaretten zu transportieren. Es liegt nun auf einem wunderschönen Strand mit türkisfarbenem Wasser, umgeben von steilen Klippen.

🇺🇸 What would a trip to Greece be without a visit to one of the many beautiful islands? Lucky us, we not only found an island to which we could take the van and ferry from Killini, but it also turned out to be Greece’s most beautiful, most famous and most diverse.

On Zakynthos, we went on several snorkeling trips, visited the half-sunken shipwreck in Navagio Bay, let a giant turtle swim under our SUPs, chilled out on the most beautiful sandy beaches and celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary on the colourful party mile in Laganas.

The shipwreck belongs to a smuggler’s ship that ran aground there in the 1980s. It is believed that the ship was pursued by the Greek coast guard when it attempted to illegally transport cigarettes. It is now located on a beautiful beach with turquoise waters, surrounded by steep cliffs.
